My Story

Hello, I'm François Gervais. I was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1976. I owned a restaurant in Quebec City for several years. Now, however, I live in Normandy, surrounded by history. In my spare time, I'm an amateur genealogist and cartographer, and I also moderate the r/UsefulCharts group and created the r/MonarchyChartsXL group on Reddit. Since 2020, I have been drawing family trees, mainly covering the Early, High and Late Middle Ages, the Renaissance and up to modern times. In 2023, I started adapting them for publication on Wikipedia. Please note that I do not sell charts. All my charts are available for free download in a variety of formats.

LibreOffice Draw

LibreOffice Draw is a free and open source vector graphics editor, making it an excellent choice for creating genealogy charts, including complex designs like a monarchy family tree. It is one of the applications included in the LibreOffice office suite, developed by The Document Foundation. With LibreOffice Draw, I can design intricate figures using various tools, such as shape tools, straight and curved tools, and polygon tools. I rely on this program to create all my charts related to European nobility.
